An overview of the New Holland 362 track loader

New Holland is an agricultural machinery specialist company founded in the late 1800s in the US. Over the decades, its ownership has shifted around to make New Holland an Italian brand finally. The company is well known for manufacturing some of the world's best agricultural machinery and equipment.

New Holland offers its customers a wide variety of loader solutions. They have invested in the compact track loader section, where the C345 was the biggest track loader. In 2021, New Holland introduced the C362 track loader, the biggest in the New Holland family and among the largest in the industry.

The New Holland C362 track loader has what it takes to be called the big brother in the New Holland C-series track loader segment. It is immense in size and offers incredible abilities in load handling and any other task you can throw its way. The loader boasts a super boom that guarantees power and superior performance whether on construction sites, farms, or in cargo logistics yards.

This new track loader has a jumbo bucket than its smaller brother C345. It can easily carry more bales, haul bulkier pallets and move jumbo boulders. With a 6,200-lb operating capacity and a 50% tipping load ability amounting to a 12,400-lb tipping load, the C362 is indeed a more than capable piece of machine.

The C362 features

You will note that everything about New Holland C362 is massive. The features of this track loader make it rank highly, making it the best option you can go for if you are looking to get the best and biggest track loader. Here are the features that qualify the loader for big-league projects:

  • It comes with 4 cylinders, and its engine is 3.4L or 207 in3. It's equipped with a turbocharger armed with a wastegate and an externally cooled EGR.
  • The engine boasts a max torque of 339 lb-ft at 1,400 RPM. At high idle and without load, the engine records 2,500 RPM with a variance of 25 RPM. At low idle, it records 1,150 RPM with the same variance as at high idle. With a full load, the engine gives 2,500 RPM.
  • The engine pumps 114 Hp at 2,500 RPM, 24 more than the C345. This extra power puts the C362 loader in a whole different category of super-powerful machines.
  • The loader's powertrain boasts an electro-hydraulic drive pump with a capacity of 49.1 cc. The electro-hydraulic control of the loader affords you a charge pressure of 43.5 psi and a relief pressure capability of 5,802 psi.
  • As for the weights, the loader's total weight is 7.31 metric tonnes, while the load capacity is 2.81 tonnes or 6,200 pounds. The lift cylinder boasts a breakout force of 12,084 lbs. The lift and carry capacity of the loader is the best in the New Holland loader lineup.
  • The 8-inch LCD screen inside the cab enhances the operator's performance and efficiency. The engine settings and performance are displayed on the big screen, and the custom screen settings give the operator ability to adjust the loader's operations to their comfort. Don't forget the cabin boasts a 360o view, and the rear camera further serves to make the loader easy to operate.
  • The bottom of the belly ground clearance is 12.6 inches. The loader comes with a rubber track, but the dealership can fix a steel track if you opt for it.
  • The daily check instruments are easily accessible from the rear of the loader. You don't need to strain to access the dipsticks or instruments recording the loader's performance or efficiency.
  • The fan in the C362 is reversible. After operating the loader for some time, you will find dirt and debris accumulating on the rear where the engine is. New Holland has equipped the loader with a reversible fan which will blow out all the debris and dirt, reducing the risk of engine blockage.

The durability of the New Holland C362

The New Holland badge is widely respected, and many owners of the track loaders from the company do so because of the high-quality materials used to make them. The track loaders from this company are known for their efficiency, reliability, and the level of technology in them.

The New Holland believes in the ability of the C362, and they have backed it with an unlimited number of hours in the first year of purchase. No matter the number of hours you use the loader and the type of work you subject it to, New Holland is confident that the loader will handle everything superbly. On the second year of usage, New Holland guarantees 2,000 hours or the entire 12 months, whichever comes first.

The C362 compact track loader was released to the market in late 2021. This means the loader is pretty new in the market, and we can't say much about its durability. No major complaints have been launched so far. Considering the past track loaders from New Holland, we can confidently say the new C362 will serve you for at least 5,000 hours without developing any serious issues.

The New Holland C362 problems and repairs

1) A tall bucket

The bucket of the C362 is phenomenal, and it will scoop a whole 6,200 pounds of cargo. The bucket is taller and deeper to allow the cargo to fit inside. However, when scooping dirt or manure to load onto a dump truck, you will notice that the blade is not visible because the bucket is very tall. This affects the operator's precision ability.

Solution

The C362 is a pretty new track loader, and there is still room for improvement and tweaking by New Holland. We will have to wait for New Holland to address this issue, as there is hardly any other bucket that one can use instead.

2) The design on the track

The track has an H-pattern which would be awesome when operating on gravel or normal ground. But on wet snow and ice, you will have a whole lot of issues maneuvering the machine. With this track, the loader keeps sliding.

Solution

The solution to this problem is to have a zig-zag track design. New Holland has the metal track to offer clients, and there doesn't seem to be any complaint from owners whose C362 use this option.

3) The whining

Compared to the C345, the C362 is much louder than the predecessor. This is especially true when you are working and the bucket is under load.

Solution

This issue has no solution, as the loader was designed this way. You will need to persevere. Maybe the extra whining is the one thing you should be ready to trade-off for the incredible power and ability that comes with the loader.

4) Dangling engine block heater cable

The heater cable is located at the back of the loader. While the presence of the cable is a genius idea, there is no place to hook it once you are done. When dangling, it can be damaged by the heavy steel rear-end door.

Solution

There doesn't seem to be a specific place the cable can be slotted in. One user devised a simple way to solve this issue, if only temporarily. They coiled the cable around the hydraulic cap before closing the door.

5) Hydraulic fluid at least 30oF

The C362 will not reach full power of operation if the hydraulic fluid is below 30 degrees. If the weather is cold, you may end up warming the machine for 10-15 minutes to get the hydraulic fluid temperature up.

Solution

There is no hydraulic fluid heater in the C362 loader, and this somehow dampens the excitement. However, you can leave the loader idle for 15 minutes before taking it for a job.

Conclusion

The New Holland C362 compact track loader is a relatively new machine in the market, and operators and owners don't have a lot of dirt on it. However, given the very solid history, New Holland track loaders and other agricultural machines boast, we can rest easy knowing that the C362 loader is just as good, if not better.
