Tym T25 Review

The Tym T25 succeeds the Tym T264 sub-compact tractor and features many updates. We evaluate its attributes below.

1) Engine

Tym equipped the T25 sub-compact tractor with a Yanmar 3TNV80F, a natural aspiration diesel engine. The engine in the T25 can deliver a gross engine power of 24.7 horsepower (hp) or 18.4 kilowatts (kW). The engine's rated speed is 3000 revolutions per minute (rpm).

The T25's engine also meets tier 4 emissions standards making it environmentally friendly. The low hp means the T25 does not require emissions control tools devices like exhaust gas recirculation or diesel particulate filter.

The engine has 3 cylinders and a displacement of 77.3 cubic inches. These should make it a reliable performer. Further, the Yanmar engine in the T25 is noted for low fuel consumption and vibrations. The Yanmar engine in the T25 is usually known for being noisy. Yet, Tym has made a lot of optimizations to keep it quiet.

2) Powertrain

The powertrain of the T25 has two transmission types, Synchro-shuttle and Hydrostatic. A tractor with both transmission types will allow greater versatility, efficiency, and reduced wear and tear.

The transmission provides infinite 2-range speeds, which will allow for precise control. The maximum traveling speed is 13.7 miles per hour (mph), and the tractor features wet disc brakes for efficient stopping power. Also, the steering system uses hydrostatic technology for precise steering and smooth maneuverability.

3) Hydraulic System

The T25 hydraulics use a single-gear pump. Tym implemented a flow capacity of 4.18 gallons per minute (gpm) and a steering flow capacity of 2.77 gpm. The total hydraulic flow gets up to 6.95 gpm, which should allow the effective operation of the hydraulic system.

Further, the Tym T25 has a category 1 three-point hitch, providing a hitch lift capacity of 1534 pounds (lb.) which is outstanding in this tractor category.

Additionally, the lift control is a position-type, allowing operators to set the height of the implement or attachment to specific positions. There are advantages to Tym's choice of a position-type lift in the T25, including an increased capacity for working in tight spaces and maintaining a consistent working height.

4) Dimensions

The Tym T25 has a total length of 107.8 inches, with a three-point hitch, and a width of 52.8 inches. The wheelbase is about 61 inches. The minimum ground clearance is 7.71 inches, enabling the T25 to navigate various terrains.

The T25 can also provide agility for work in tight spaces thanks to its minimum turn radius of 102.4 inches with brakes. Without brakes, the minimum turn radius is 109.5 inches. The Tym T25 weighs 1881 pounds with a rollover protection structure (ROPS). The presence of the cab increases the T25's weight to 2399 pounds.

5) Power Take-off

The PTO equipped by Tym in the T25 is independent and allows for electric or hydrostatic control. The rear PTO works at 540 RPM, allowing you to use several implements or attachments.

6) Capacities

The T25 has a sizable fuel tank capacity of 6.6 gallons which, combined with the engine's low fuel consumption, will enable you to carry out long intensive works without needing frequent refills. The coolant and crankcase capacities are 3.8 quarts and 2.9 quarts, respectively. The hydraulic system also has a large capacity of 5.8 gallons, providing ample fluid for smooth operation. The front axle can take up to 4.7 quarts.

7) Attachments and Accessories

The T25 allows for universal attachments on the front, rear, and mid-mount that are easy to find. There are no exclusive mounts for the T25, so no vendor or manufacturer lock-in exists.

It comes with a loader attached. The loader has an impressive lift capacity of 1380 lb., a lift height of 87.2 inches, and a bucket capacity of 6.7 cubic feet. Tym also has in-house attachments that are compatible with the T25. The three compatible Tym attachments for the T25 at the time of publication are:

  • TL25 front-end loader
  • TM60 Mid-Mount Mower
  • TB65 Backhoe

Tym also has a bunch of compatible accessories for the T25, including block heaters, speakers, light kits, rear wipers, and more. Tym T25 will give you several options for customizing your experience and varying your workflow.

8) Tires

Tym's T25 tire options will allow you to work on differing terrains. There are varying R3 turf tires for the front and the rear. You can also have R4 industrial tires at both the front and rear. The turf tires have taller and more aggressive tires for going over more sensitive surfaces or terrains.

9) Operator Station

The seat of the Tym T25 has an armrest and an adjustable suspension seat, which makes the operational experience comfortable. The seat is also about 2 inches higher than the T264's, which gives more legroom.

You have cupholders on either side of the seat to keep your refreshments. The controls are also easy to use and access. Getting in and out of the T25 on either side is also convenient. The T25 operator design is excellent for comfort and usability.

10) Servicing

The T25's design has convenient servicing at the forefront. Important service features are easy to access, which simplifies maintenance. You can easily get to the engine in front of the cab to perform routine maintenance checks and operations. Other parts like the battery, fuel water separator, radiator, alternator, and oil dipsticks are readily accessible.

11) Additional Features

Tym equipped T25 with LED work lights for enhanced visibility that will help in less-than-ideal working conditions. The headlights on the Tym T25 are outstanding, and you are unlikely to find a tractor of this size with better ones. Also, you have amber flasher lights to warn others of your presence and when it is safe to go. You can add an optional light kit if you want.

Behind the operator's seat is a toolbox, which you can use to store gadgets and tools. Furthermore, you will have access to two USB outlets and a wireless phone charger, which caters to your portable device's energy needs. Additionally, you get a Bluetooth speaker.

The T25 also comes with a third-function installation kit. Unlike the Tym T264, which uses a diverter to run a third function to the front, the T25 has a proper third function. The kit includes a hard line instead of a soft one, allowing you to link hydraulics like a grapple at the front effectively. While the kit and installation may be expensive, it provides expanded functionality should you need it.

Common Problems

1) Rear Control Valve Position

The rear control valve for the rear remote located just below the front of the operator seat extends out wide enough to easily hit it with your legs and trigger or deactivate the rear remote. It is a detent valve, so to use the backhoe, you must flip it on to provide continuous hydraulic pressure. This issue is one of the few ergonomic misses of the T25.

2) Engine Does Not Crank or Start

An operator's misstep sometimes causes failure to crank. Check that the PTO switch is off and the front pedal is not depressed before starting. Also, the brake pedal must be completely depressed when you turn the key switch.

The battery could also cause the engine to not crank or start. So, inspect the battery cables to ensure they are not disconnected or loose. Supposing they are, secure them tightly. If the problem persists, measure the battery voltage with a digital multimeter. Do this before you start the engine or an hour after turning it off. The expected battery voltage should lie between 11.9v and 12.8v. Charge it if between 11.6 and 11.9v.

Another thing that could cause this issue is the starter motor. If its wiring is loose, the T25 will not start.

3) Engine Cranks but Won't Start

The Tym T25 engine may crank and not start when you try to power it on. One likely cause of this problem could be the weather. Tym T25 may struggle to start in frigid weather. To fix this, put the key switch in the on position. Then wait for the glow lamp symbol on the instrument panel to go off before starting the engine. Doing this will warm up the engine to start up after cranking. You can also install a block heater to make the process faster.

A blown fuse will also not allow the engine to start despite cranking. Inspect the fuse for damage. If so, get a replacement of the same capacity. Water in the fuel system can also cause the engine to crank without starting. Similarly, air in the fuel system can also cause the problem. You will need to bleed it out.

Durability and Pricing

Tym only recently released the Tym T25 in 2021. It will be hard to evaluate its long-term durability now. However, Tym machines have a strong reputation for being tough and durable. In addition, Tym has used high-quality parts on this tractor, including the engine and build, which are upgrades on the predecessor, the T264, which is known for its durability.

To back this up, Tym offers a 3000-hour maximum coverage period for drivetrains and powertrains, including labor and parts. Also, you get a one-year warranty for implements like loaders and backhoes. There is also a bumper-to-bumper cover for the Tym T25 that is valid for up to 2 years.

The Tym T25 price will vary based on the dealer, condition, options, and location. Several listings show current prices range from $15 000 to $30 000 for new and used T25s.
